Christian Ulbricht was born in the small German mining town of Seiffen on February 15, 1933. His father, Otto was a professional wood turner who started his own business in 1928. After the Second World War the family had to relocate across the border to West Germany in order to maintain their own business. They settled in the Bavarian town of Lauingen, near Augsburg and began again.
In 1968, following the passing of Otto, Christian took over the business. Ten years later the business was expanded and a new company was born which he named Holzkunst Christian Ulbricht.
In the early 1990’s, when East and West Germany were reunited, Christian was thrilled to bring his company back to Seiffen.
Christian takes great pride when he designs a new nutcracker and it takes shape for him on the lathe. This piece becomes the blueprint for the workers to use when they handcraft the pieces.
Though the company has grown significantly and is well into its third generation, the same traditions begun by Otto remain today. These are traditions that tie the land to the family, and most importantly traditions that produce excellence in production.
To the collector, these nutcrackers are among the finest money can buy. However, whether you are a collector or not, the quality will be apparent when you receive your nutcracker. They are sure to bring you pleasure for many years
