For many years, the Steinbach family has produced fine wood products. Today, the company is headed by Herr Christian Steinbach. Steinbach’s daughter, Karla, maintains the position of vice president, and is being groomed to take over the company upon the retirement of her father. Together they oversee the quality and development of their products at the factory located in northern Germany.
The family started the business in 1832 by purchasing a timber yard and operating a sawmill, then powered by water. Today, they value the rich tradition passed down by many generations: that is to produce the highest quality products, maintaining their reputation for excellence.
This type of handcrafted work is not easy. “To produce one nutcracker,” explains Herr Steinbach, “can involve up to 130 separate procedures. At one time, the curling and drying to the wood could take up to 3-4 years depending upon the piece.”
If you were to collect these exquisite pieces for their beauty or secondary market value, you will be sure to notice their old world charm, and quality.
